Tips for when you’re not feeling well in college and need to miss class.

• Check out your syllabi- What is the process is for missing class.

• Email your professors- Attendance matters, even when the professors "don't take attendance."
  • Have an assignment due? Include a plan of action for that, potentially even asking for an extension.
  • If your syllabus doesn’t specify, ask the professors what they need from you to confirm you are sick (example: note from Student Heath Center- see below?)
  • Depending on how sick you are, keep checking in with your professors. It’s much easier to be in touch earlier rather than later explaining why you missed class.

• Visit the Student Health Center- $10 office visit. No health insurance needed.

• Don't overdo it- Give yourself a break, and rest when you can.

• Fluids, fluids, fluids- Drink plenty of them. Gatorade, tea, anything that helps replenish electrolytes.

• Create a to-do list- Things you know you are missing or should be doing. When you start to feel better, you'll know where to start.

• Hygiene- Take a hot shower. Wash your hands. Put on some new clothes. Wipe down the surfaces in your room.
